On Friday Mayor Rogero visited with and presented honorary citizenship certificates to several members of a Korean Delegation from Jeonju Kijeon College.
While in Knoxville, the delegation was being guided by Master Py Eun from TTJC.
Master Py Eun and the delegation presented the Mayor with an honorary black belt and other gifts.

The John H. Duncan Jr. Knoxville Station Transit Center on Church Avenue won the Grand Iris Award in March for excellence in engineering. It is the highest honor bestowed the state chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies. The award went to the City's contractor, CDMSmith.
In a ceremony on Monday, May 14, officials from CDMSmith presented the trophy to their partners in the project.
Mayor Madeline Rogero joined Dale Smith, CEO of the Public Building Authority; Cindy McGinnis, General Manager of Knoxville Area Transit; and Congressman John H. Duncan, Jr.

The Knoxville chapter of AIGA (the American Institute of Graphic Artists) is thrilled to announce Knoxville's Second Annual Design Week, the biggest design event in East TN, running from May 14th - 18th.
Building on the success of last year's inaugural Design Week, this year's Design Week features special events each day of the week to engage, inspire, educate and spotlight Knoxville's thriving design community.
During the week, we will recognize local design leaders, provide mentoring, host a panel lunch, offer studio tours, provide an educational workshop, and numerous opportunities to form new connections.

The City of Knoxville refinanced approximately $92 million in debt, taking advantage of the opportunity to save more than $18 million dollars.
On Monday, the City took bids to determine the lowest interest rate to refinance a portion of its debt, with seven financial institutions bidding. Wells Fargo was the winning bidder.
The City was paying an interest rate close to 4% and has refinanced to a rate of less than 2%.
The estimated savings during the life of the debt is $18.4 million; the annual savings is approximately $1.4 million per year through 2025.
The Knoxville Knox County Homeless Coalition (KKCHC) in coordination with Knoxville Homeless Management Information System (KnoxHMIS) released a study today called "Homelessness in Knoxville and Knox County, TN" and presented the report to Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett in the Bill Lyons Pavilion on Market Square.
Rev. Dr. Bruce Spangler, President of Knoxville/Knox County Homeless Coalition welcomed attendees and introduced Dr. Roger M. Nooe, Knox County Public Defenders Community Law Office and Dr. David Patterson from KnoxHMIS. Dr. Nooe and Dr. Patterson presented findings from the report.
Jaime Brennan, Vice-President of Knoxville/Knox County Homeless Coalition presented closing remarks.
On Thursday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. the Knox County Schools will host the 2012 - 2013 Teacher of the Year celebration at the Crowne Plaza Knoxville, located at 401 W. Summit Hill Drive.
Teacher of the Year honorees from each school will be recognized, and three Knox County Teacher of the Year recipients will be announced. The Teacher of the Year celebration recognizes outstanding educators from the Knox County Schools.
Recipients are nominated by their colleagues for this annual award. The number of Teachers of the Year from each school is based on the number of faculty at that school. Schools are allowed one recipient for every 20 faculty members. The Knox County Schools adheres to the Tennessee Department of Education guidelines for selecting Teachers of the Year.
To be eligible for Teacher of the Year, candidates must be a full-time, certified Pre K-12 teacher, spend the majority of the day instructing students, and be in at least the fifth year of teaching. Candidates must also show dedication to teaching and possess a variety of positive personal attributes.
Each school level honoree who wishes to be considered for Knox County Teacher of the Year must prepare a binder that includes a general information form, an overview of his or her educational history and professional development leadership and community involvement.

The Department of Safety and Homeland Security announced that three state driver service centers located in Knox, Greene and Obion counties will provide reinstatement services only starting on January 3, 2012 following the New Year’s Day holiday.
| Mayor Daniel Brown and Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett greeted riders with the Ride:Well Bike Tour as they arrived in Knoxville Wednesday as part of a 3,300-mile, cross-country ride to raise awareness and funds for the effort to provide clean water to communities in sub-Saharan Africa. The ride supports Blood: Water Mission, an organization dedicated to developing clean water wells and supporting medical facilities and programs to address the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa. According to its website Blood:Water Mission has worked with more than 1,000 African communities so far to bring clean water and improved health care to 600,000 people in 13 different countries. |

A separate Ride:Well Bike Tour is riding a 2,000-mile course along the Pacific Coast. The rides have raised more than $300,000 during the past two years. The riders are staying in Knoxville tonight before heading into Virginia tomorrow. The ride is slated to end on August 7, at Virginia Beach. Ride Well Tour The Ride:Well Tour, powered by Venture Expeditions, is a cycling campaign to raise money and awareness for clean water & HIV/AIDS support in Africa through the work of Blood:Water Mission. In the past two years the Ride:Well Tour has raised close to $300,000 to provide clean water projects, clinics and educational opportunities for our friends in Africa while educating people in countless communities across America about the water & HIV/AIDS crises many Africans face everyday. This year they will be cycling across the southern half of the United States and north along the Pacific Coast to provide people in Marsabit, Kenya with clean drinking water, hygiene & sanitation education and latrines. |
