Mayor Brown helped open The Market at 504 S. Gay Street Wednesday with an official ribbon cutting ceremony.
The MarketThe Market is a small, but well-stocked, grocery store that opened to serve downtown residents. It is the result of collaboration between the H.T. Hackney Company, which owns the building and The Market in Maryville - which is something of an upscale grocery featuring specialty goods, locally-made baked goods, local produce and meat.

The Market at Union and Gay will mirror the Maryville site. "It will be similar but not exactly the same. We'll have more convenience items, all the things that downtown residents need," said Mike Adams, General Manager of The Market.

Speakers at the event included Mayor Daniel Brown, Mike Edwards - Knoxville Chamber, Rebecca Ramsey - Ramsey Marketing, and Mike Adams - The Market.

Store hours for The Market at Union & Gay are as follows:
Monday-Thursday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Friday 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Saturday 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
