The Knox County Schools Magnet Program is hosting several open houses where teachers, administrators, and magnet staff will be available to answer any questions about specific programs available at each school.

Magnet programs offer a choice in the educational process by presenting innovative and unique curricula integrated into everyday learning. Programs are committed to increasing educational opportunities for students while promoting students’ interests, abilities and talents.

The Knox County Schools Magnet Program consists of three elementary schools: Beaumont Fine Arts & Honors Magnet Academy, Green Math & Science Magnet Academy and Sarah Moore Greene Technology Magnet Academy; one middle school: Vine Middle Performing Arts & Sciences Magnet School; and three high schools: Austin-East Magnet High School, West High School (International Baccalaureate program), and the L&N STEM Academy.

Open houses/informational sessions will be held during the following dates and times:

All magnet schools on one site:
• Magnet Fair at Knoxville Museum of Art (1050 World’s Fair Park Drive)
o Thursday, Feb. 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Elementary schools:
• Beaumont Fine Arts & Honors Magnet Academy (1211 Beaumont Ave.)
o Friday, Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. to noon
o Thursday, Feb. 9 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
o Thursday, Feb. 9 from 10 a.m. to noon
• Green Math & Science Magnet Academy (801 Townview Drive)
o Tuesday, Feb. 7 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
o Friday, Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. to noon
• Sarah Moore Greene Technology Magnet Academy (3001 Brooks Road)
o Wednesday, Feb. 8 from noon to 2 p.m.
o Friday, Feb. 10 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Middle schools:
• Vine Middle Performing Arts & Sciences Magnet School (1807 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.)
o Tuesday, Feb. 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 AND 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

High schools:
• Austin-East Magnet High School (2800 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.)
o Monday, Feb. 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
• L&N STEM Academy (401 Henley Street)
o Thursday, Feb. 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• West High School (International Baccalaureate Program) (3300 Sutherland Ave.)
o Tuesday, Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
o Thursday, Feb. 9 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The Knox County Schools magnet program transfer request period is currently open through Feb. 20, 2012. The general student transfer window for the 2012-13 school year is Feb. 6 through Feb. 20. Specific details can be found by visiting www.knoxschools.org.
